Opening this weekend: “Disillusion, Resolution, Evolution, Revolution” in the New England Watercolor Society’s Regional Juried Exhibition at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown, MA November 14, 2025 – January 19, 2026

PLEASE NOTE

My original post about this exhibit had the wrong date and time for the opening reception. It’s this Saturday, December 6, from 2-4pm.

I’m especially proud to be included in this New England Watercolor Society exhibition in this beautiful gallery space. Once again, I expected one of my more traditional paintings to make the cut on this show, and they surprised me by choosing this contemporary work. My hope is that the fuller context of this painting comes through – while much of my work has a whimsical quality to it, there are deeper messages in to be found for those who care to look. But the colors and shapes hold their own, I think.

“A State of Perpetual Surprise” to appear in the Rhode Island Watercolor Society’s Juried Simply Watercolor Show, November 15-December 12, 2025

I’m certainly glad the wonderful people at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society seem to understand my art, as evidenced by their acceptance of this whimsical piece. Sometimes I feel like my work is a bit of comic relief in an angsty and serious time and that’s perfectly fine with me – but the tiny figure in the window in this piece represents something important to me. I can’t presume to know what it might evoke in the viewer, but comments are encouraged.

Simply watercolor opens on November 15, with the opening reception on Saturday, November 22 at 1pm.

“To be Wild with Nothing to be Wild About” wins the Jack Thor Ahlin Award from the Cape Cod Art Center

Jack Thor Ahlin was a much beloved and accomplished artist on Cape Cod, and I am honored to receive the prize that bears his name. This national juried show is my first with the Cape Cod Art Center.

The Cape Cod Art Center’s Autumn National Exhibit is on view October 20 – November 15, 2025 – this is a perfect time to visit this beautiful gallery in Yarmouth, MA.

“Disillusion, Resolution, Evolution, Revolution” Accepted to the New England Watercolor Society’s Regional Juried Exhibition, November 14, 2025 – January 19, 2026

This is a real milestone for me. The New England Watercolor Society is, not surprisingly, an organization from which every watercolorist seeks affirmation. Once again, I expected one of my more traditional paintings to make the cut on this exhibition, and they surprised me by choosing this contemporary work. My hope is that the fuller context of this painting comes through – while much of my work has a whimsical quality to it, there are deeper messages in to be found for those who care to look. An Honorable Mention for “Inception” from the Sandwich Arts Alliance

The June Kershaw Open Exhibit includes some extraordinary works in a variety of media, so I’m especially pleased that we earned an honorable mention in the watercolor category. As party of this juried show of 50 works selected from hundreds of entries, judge Hillary Osborn called this Inception “very innovative” – it does stray from traditional watercolor and so I’m particularly glad to be to show it and be recognized.

Thanks to the Sandwich Arts Alliance for the opportunity to submit and share this work. You can visit the show in person until September 2, 2025, at the old Sandwich Town Hall or view it online.

“Inception” accepted to the Sandwich Arts Alliance’s June Kershaw Open Juried Exhibition July 22-August 30, 2025

I’m so pleased to have a chance to share this piece, which sprang from my imagination during a long winter emerging from COVID.

The Sandwich Arts Alliance is a wonderful creative resource for artists and writers on Cape Cod. It’s home is in the old Sandwich, Massachusetts, Town Hall, where you can view exhibits, take classes and browse their shop that’s full of books, cards, images and lots of original art.

The show opens on July 22 – the gallery reception is on July 31 from 5:30-7:30pm. The SAA is open Tuesday – Saturday 11 – 4.

We recently participated in the SAA’s Hydrangea Week art sale, spending a gorgeous July day in the shade sharing our work with people from near and far.

“Greener pastures” wins third prize from the Rhode Island Watercolor Society

Greener Pastures, watercolor + gouache, 2025

In addition to exhibiting art at their Pawtucket gallery, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society holds a number of online shows each year, and the current exhibit, In the City is where you can find this work.

Juror Bill Lane remarked:

“The color palette caught my attention, the drawing caught my intrigue, and the playfulness made me smile. Great depiction of a busy city scene with masterful shapes and details throughout the watercolor. What fun!!”

Bill is a master watercolorist – I’m a huge fan of his work and so pleased to be chosen from such a beautiful group of paintings in a variety of media.

“Greener Pastures” was inspired by my youth – a mashup of my love for the greens of Iowa summers, my yearning to escape to the big city, and my obsession with the Wizard of Oz.

I went through a phase, post Covid, where painting from photos or from life was challenging, and I relied on my memories and imagination to fuel my art. It was frustrating at first but I like the evolution that occurred.
